Located about 5 - 10 minutes drive from Christchurch International airport, Copthorne Commodore Hotel in New Zealand is a chalet-esque hotel, with sprawling grounds, fields and trees surrounding it, and styled in wooden and white colours. With a faux stone wall and waterfall out front, this gives Copthorne Commodore Hotel the impression of being a calm and serene place to stay. It also helps that its location is very accessible to several attractions and convienence options around Christchurch.


Ambience
Ambience within Copthorne Commodore Hotel feels natural, with greens, whites and browns complementing each other. Signage is clear, which is essential for the huge layout of the place, and layout is both linear and uncomplicated. Greenery around the hotel lends a touch of atmosphere, as does the well designed Terrace and indoor Swimming Pool. Copthorne Commodore Hotel also functions as the hotel of choice for the Antarctic mission expedition, and photographs of past years missions adorn the walls.


Room
I stayed in the Superior Room at Copthorne Commodore Hotel. Despite the rather small room, they've managed to squeeze both a bathtub and shower in, as well as a small living area and pantry. The room is comfortable though somewhat aging, and there aren't many options on the television. A small balcony adds to the ambience and value, it offers a good view of the surrounding area.


Food
Food at Copthorne Commodore Hotel is limited to dining at Pattersons Restaurant & Bar, which has a limited menu. However, portions are nicely sized and dishes taste good. Ingredients used are fresh, and mostly prepared and served in simple, uncomplicated ways, allowing the natural taste of the ingredients to shine. Pattersons Restaurant & Bar also has a good range of drinks, especially wine.


Service
Service at Copthorne Commodore Hotel is above average, but not outstanding. Staff are friendly and welcoming, with decent product knowledge on the the hotel, and sufficient area knowledge of the surrounding area. The size of Copthorne Commodore Hotel means staff visibility is low, and they will take time to arrive if called. Staff are able to assist efficiently with requests during business meetings, getting requests done quickly.


Facilities & Activities
The facilities at Copthorne Commodore Hotel are average, and while well maintained, also show signs of aging. There are several recreation and sporting options which is great, and they also provide a car rental service. Copthorne Commodore Hotel is located rather close to the city centre, as well as several shopping and entertainment options. A free bus shuttle is provided to some of these places upon request, though it's preferable to drive instead.
