Started in October 2017, Carrot Cubes first operated around Singapore as a pop-up stall, until its tasty dishes and growing popularity led founder Claire Ng to open her 1st stall in January 2019. Her father, Ng Kwee Boon, has been making and supplying carrot cake for many other stalls over the last 20 years, steaming them the traditional way using large aluminium trays. With his daughter's stall, he's more generous with the amount of preserved radish / chye poh used when making the carrot cake.

Ambience at Carrot Cubes draws upon the heartland coffee shop it's located in. Open-air, breezy, and casual, with decent functional furniture and bright lighting. The place is a breakfast-lunch type of coffee shop, and sees most of its crowd around lunch.

Service at Carrot Cubes is completely self-service, with ordering, payment, and collection at the stall-front. That said, the owners are friendly and will engage customers. You can order and have a seat, they'll notify you when your order is ready, usually a wait of about 5 - 10 minutes or so.

Food at Carrot Cubes is focused on the classic Singaporean dish of carrot cake / chye tow kueh. They offer both traditional white and black versions, but have also introduced new modern renditions which have proved popular at pop-up events. Taste is above average, and portions are sized for individuals. Prices are comparable to elsewhere, budget about SGD $4 per person.

The Carrot Cake White (SGD $3) has nicely diced cubes of daikon radish carrot cake / chye tow kueh, studded with a generous portion of preserved radish bits, steamed till soft, and stir-fried with eggs. While I would have liked it to be less oily with more egg, the texture is soft with a slight crisp edge, and good sweet eggy salty savoury flavour. Chili is separate, though you can get it cooked in on request.

The Carrot Cake Black (SGD $3) has nicely diced cubes of daikon radish carrot cake / chye tow kueh, studded with a generous portion of preserved radish bits, steamed till soft, and stir-fried with eggs and dark sweet soy sauce. While I would have liked it to be less oily with more egg, the texture is soft and easy to eat, with good sweet eggy savoury salty flavour. Chili is separate, though you can get it cooked in on request.

The Carrot Cake Hottie (SGD $4) has nicely diced cubes of daikon radish carrot cake / chye tow kueh, studded with a generous portion of preserved radish bits, steamed till soft, and stir-fried with eggs and Thai red chili flakes. While I would have liked it to be less oily, the texture is soft and easy to eat, with good sweet eggy savoury spicy flavour. The spicy kick of the Thai red chili flakes is very faint though, I would have preferred it to be bolder, and more distinct on the palate. They've improved on this, being more generous with the Thai red chili flakes, such that you'll get a distinct fragrant spicy kick in each mouthful, with a short lingering burn.

The Carrot Cake Bacon (SGD $5) has nicely diced cubes of daikon radish carrot cake / chye tow kueh, studded with a generous portion of preserved radish bits, steamed till soft, and stir-fried with eggs, diced carrots, and strips of pork bacon. You get the soft moist bite of the daikon radish cake, the light crunch of the carrots, and the chewy bits of the pork bacon. Has bold savoury salty sweet flavour. Unique and tasty. Highly recommended!
