Established in January 2011, Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar is a modern gastropub and curry house, known for their casual and relaxing ambience, delicious North Indian and British English food, and affable service. Offering vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and gluten-free options, Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar is well-regarded by those working near their locations in the Central Business District (CBD) of Singapore.
Ambience at Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar is casual and relaxing. While they do have comfortable modern furniture indoors, most diners opt to sit outdoors al-fresco, where the wide rattan chairs and sturdy tables are air-cooled, lit by both natural light and lamps. It helps that their locations tend to be in buildings designed to channel cool windy breezes.
Service at Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar is friendly and attentive. Staff demonstrate clear product knowledge, introducing dishes when serving, and fielding queries well. They clean up quickly when diners leave, but also proactively offer to clear finished plates throughout the meal. Staff work discreetly, but it's also easy to attract their attention as needed.
Food at Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar is primarily North Indian cuisine, with a few British English dishes. The kitchen team utilises a good variety of spices and cooking techniques, from roasting to stewing, serving hearty and delicious curries that satisfy. Portions are designed for sharing and communal dining. Prices have a slight premium, budget about SGD $35 per person.

The Beer Paulaner Bräuhaus Dunkel (SGD $9.90) is an unfiltered German Munich style dark lager brewed by the Paulaner Bräuhaus brewery in Singapore. It has a deep brown black colour, with aromas of roasted chestnut, oak, roasted malts, and toffee. The body is smooth, rich, and creamy, with tastes of roasted coffee beans, chocolate, hazelnuts, and caramel. Has subtle smoky sweet earthy flavour, with a short finish. Best paired with roasted meats or vegetables, or strong cheese.

Loved the Portobello Mushroom Stuffed With Spinach (SGD $16) appetizer. This features a single grilled portobello mushroom, juicy and tender with smoky vegetal earthy sweet salty flavour, stuffed with soft wilted spinach leaves that hold bright vegetal sweet flavour. Sliced into 4 quarters, each mouthful was a lovely burst of flavour. Served with medium cut British English style potato chips, with good starchy salty sweet flavour and a fluffy soft texture. Highly recommended!

The Onion Bhaji (SGD $12) is delicious, with the crisp crunchy deep-fried mashed chickpea and red onion fritters holding together well. Bite in and it crumbles slightly, releasing a pleasant earthy sweet salty spice flavour. Served with a mild mint chutney with herbal sweet notes. Good!

The house signature Chicken Tikka Masala (SGD $22) has a creamy thick curry gravy, rich with the flavours of tomato and spices, nicely vegetal sweet savoury spicy in taste. The roasted chicken tikka within is tender and succulent, with the meaty savoury sweet notes picked up from the curry gravy. The only quibble is the portion size is small, would be better if they were more generous with the amount of chicken within. Worth ordering!

So named because it was served in the 1st class coaches of the Indian railways during the period of British expansionism, the Railway Mutton Curry (SGD $24) is a distinctly less spicy version of regular mutton curry, as it was toned down for the British English palate. Best paired with white rice, the mellow meaty savoury spice flavours of this rich thick curry are derived from stewing chunks of boneless lamb in a tomato curry tamed with coconut milk. The curry itself carries a blend of spices including garlic paste, ginger paste, salt, powdered turmeric, powdered cumin, curry leaves, bay leaves, cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds, and red chili. Good!

The Karahi Prawn (SGD $26) has a distinct undercurrent of spice, particularly from the use of dried chili. The partially deshelled prawns / shrimp are fresh and juicy, with natural sweet savoury flavour. The curry gravy is infused with red onions and bell peppers / capsicum, lending vegetal sweet notes, and also making this a rather chunky curry. Worth ordering!

The Garlic Naan (SGD $5.50) is large and well made, with a fluffy soft texture to the naan bread that yields with a soft chew. Has bright smoky vegetal sweet spice flavours from the garlic studded on the surface. Good!

The Jeera Rice (SGD $7) is a fragrant staple dish, featuring boiled long-grain basmati white rice, tossed with cumin seeds and a bit of clarified butter / ghee. This imparts a smoky buttery aroma to the rice, resulting in an addictive grainy sweet earthy spice flavour. Good!

The Chicken Dum Biryani (SGD $24) is served in a sealed earthenware pot (covered with naan bread dough), and opened tableside to release a fragrant aroma. The boneless chicken chunks within are tender and moist, with lovely meaty spice savoury flavour. The biryani rice uses long-grain basmati rice, which is fluffy and soft and separate easily. However, I felt the flavours was too mild, with insufficient infusion of spice, resulting in the rice being light on taste. Could be improved.
