Having experienced the excellent Bobby Bizz by XD Design over the last 4 years, when I was looking for a medium sized travel backpack that could store a large laptop along with 2 - 3 days worth of clothing, I went with the Bobby Duffle by XD Design. Featuring their iconic anti-theft design with hidden lockable zippers, hidden pockets, cut-resistant materials, and no frontal access, the Bobby Duffle is sustainably made using recycled bottles.

There are 3 carrying options for the Bobby Duffle; the standard backpack mode, the handheld duffle bag mode, and the crossover sling bag mode; I typically prefer using the backpack mode. The Bobby Duffle is water repellent and sufficiently water resistant against rain, keeping your electronics and items within dry. The exterior surface is easy to clean, and the center of the bag has a reflective strip for night safety. The Bobby Duffle has 5 quick access exterior pockets; a large side pocket for tablets or e-readers, a radio-frequency identification (RFID) blocking lower back pocket for passports and wallets, a waterproof top pocket for foldable umbrellas, and 2 strap mounted sternum pockets for cards and accessories like earphones or sunglasses.

The bottom of the Bobby Duffle has a large pocket for storing shoes / footwear. On the interior of the Bobby Duffle, the large space opens up with a detachable internal divider enabling different organization options, such as clothing and camera equipment. It stores sufficient for short trips of up to 5 days. There's a soft padded compartment for a large laptop of up to 17 inches, another for a tablet, and several mesh pockets for electronic equipment or accessories. It all carries well, and the Bobby Duffle retains its shape and structure. I like that it doesn't look overly bulky, maintaining a sleek medium sized silhouette.

Given that it functions as a 2-in-1 bag for electronics and clothing, the Bobby Duffle is ideal for short trips of up to 5 days, suitable for the urban nomad. For most international airlines, the Bobby Duffle is well within approved carry-on limits (31 centimetres width, 57 centimetres height, 19 centimetres depth), although the maximum weight it can carry is up to 12.5 kilograms. However, limitations of the Bobby Duffle include the lack of an external charging cable for devices, the omission of a luggage strap (given that this is meant to be used as a standalone travel bag), and the inability to store a water bottle on the side as there aren't any pockets.






















Overall, I'm pleased with the experience of using the Bobby Duffle. While I find it a bit bulky for general daily use, the Bobby Duffle is definitely my bag of choice for short trips and staycations.
