"Barnaby was a big sheepdog who went to heaven when I was twelve". This poignant story in a single sentence is haunting and bittersweet. So it is that the proud owners of Barnaby's Cafe, Jeff Gale, Ed Cervantes, and Bob Luna, named their first outlet after the beloved sheepdog in December 1992; today operating a total of 9 Barnaby's Cafe around town.
Ambience at Barnaby's Cafe is bustling and functional. The facade resembles a cobblestone cottage house, and within, it's neatly arrayed with casual functional dark wooden furnishings, sunlight streaming in through the windows. The decoration is loud and proud, dog-themed and colourful, with the iconic sheepdog mascot Barnaby portrayed in various settings. Atmosphere is noisy and bustling.
Service at Barnaby's Cafe is friendly and helpful. Staff are quick to greet and seat guests, demonstrating good product knowledge as they offer recommendations and explanations of the menu. Orders are fulfilled after a short wait, and I note staff clean up quickly when diners leave. They periodically check on your dining experience for feedback throughout, though somewhat cooler than elsewhere.
Food at Barnaby's Cafe is all American cuisine, bordering on the wholesome and healthy. Dishes are made to order, consistently well executed as evident by the many regulars they have. Barnaby's Cafe is also dog-friendly, and pets at the patio also have menu options. For humans, portions are sized large for individuals. Prices are reasonable for a cafe, budget about USD $37 / SGD $50 per person.

The Lemonade (USD $4) has a zesty tangy sour sweet flavour, thin and light yet so refreshing. A good thirst-quenching beverage!

The Chili Con Carne (USD $2) here isn't a side dish, but rather, an optional add-on with an order of Chili Dog. Has a chunky grainy smooth texture with bright meaty savoury salty spice flavour. Good!

Didn't expect their Chili Dog (USD $17) to be a foot-long version! Between fluffy soft hot dog buns with bready sweet flavour sits a snappy juicy foot-long grilled beef sausage with meaty savoury salty herbal spice flavour, to which we topped with chili con carne, grated cheddar cheese, and spring onions. Served alongside crisp Cajun spiced potato waffle fries with starchy salty spice savoury flavour, yum. Highly recommended!

Loved the Apple Pie À La Mode (USD $10), with its flaky crumbly texture to the pie crust and juicy crunchy tender bite to the spiced green apple filling, carrying smoky bready fruity sweet sour spice flavour. Served with a creamy smooth vanilla ice cream with floral milky sweet flavour. Highly recommended!
