Description:
Cuttlefish Kang Kong is a type of Chinese salad, which supposedly originated from Singapore. Cuttlefish Kang Kong consists of a mixture of cuttlefish and various vegetables, doused in a sweet sauce.
The main ingredient in Cuttlefish Kang Kong is fresh cuttlefish and fried tofu puffs, which are thinly sliced and blanched in hot water. The main vegetables used in Cuttlefish Kang Kong are blanched water spinach (Kang Kong), blanched bean sprouts and sliced fresh cucumber. Some hawkers also include lettuce, pineapple or ginger to enhance the taste and texture.
The sweet sauce used in Cuttlefish Kang Kong is made with water, light soy sauce, sesame oil, molasses, shrimp paste (Belacan) and spring onions. Some hawkers may also opt to substitute some of the ingredients, or include additional ones, like fried shallots, sweet chili sauce, sugar, red food colouring, seafood hoisin sauce or oyster sauce.
Cuttlefish Kang Kong is usually served garnished with sesame seeds, lime juice, spicy chili sauce and roasted ground peanuts. Cuttlefish Kang Kong is normally eaten as a snack, a light meal, or a salad for sharing.
.....
Cuttlefish Kang Kong is a somewhat uncommon dish in Singapore, with few stalls selling it, and even fewer that do it really well.
These are the top 3 stalls which I feel serve the best Cuttlefish Kang Kong in Singapore.
