Roughly the same distance from the city center of Bandar Seri Begawan, The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel is positioned as a casual, family resort, and offers shuttle services to get around to most of the major attractions in Brunei.


Ambience
Ambience within The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel is casual and minimal. The place shows signs of aging everywhere, from the decor to the furniture. The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel is slated to undergo major upgrading works in 2014, to modernise the place. Part of the appeal here is the large swimming pool, and the majority of rooms face it.


Room
I stayed in the Standard Room at The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel. The room is rather small, as is the bathroom, and like most places in Bandar Seri Begawan, also shows signs of age. While comfortable, the lighting is rather insufficient throughout the room, except at the living room work desk. Basic and functional, though lacking in certain small amenities, which will have to be requested from the reception, such as hand towels, plates, or ironing board.


Food
Food at The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel is average. There is only 1 eating place, the All-Stars Sports Cafe, which supposedly has a 'sports' theme, but looks rather run down. Food is decent, and portions are nicely sized, though the menu is very limited. There is an in-house menu for events / functions, though the food on that menu isn't available on the regular room service menu.


Service
Service at The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel is casual, friendly and welcoming. At times, the number of staff actually outnumber the guests in the hotel, so service is attentive and very efficient. Requests get carried out quickly. In particular, the service during conferences / meetings is very professional and efficient. Also, the shuttle service to various attractions around Bandar Seri Begawan and Jerutong is very convienent, especially with the limited number of taxis in Brunei.


Facilities & Activities
The facilities at The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel are limited, mainly consisting of free wi-fi and the swimming pool. Types of services such as medical, babysitting, business centre and others are non-existent at the current moment, but may be implemented as part of the upgrading and rebranding in 2014. The restaurant is also due to be upgraded and the menu expanded. The Holiday Lodge Hotel / Star Lodge Hotel is just 5 - 10 minutes walk away from Jerutong Park Playground, as well as a local convienence store and the Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque.
