Opened on 12 March 2016, Future World is the latest permanent exhibition at the ArtScience Museum. True to its name, Future World is an immersive digital playground, with 15 digital art installations that fully engage your senses; sight, sound, touch, hearing, and even movement! This huge 1,500 square metres digital universe is child-friendly and engaging, which means families with children will enjoy themselves here!
Future World is designed in collaboration with award-winning Japanese art collective teamLab. This group of Tokyo-based 'ultra-technologists' include artists, computer graphic animators, programmers, mathematicians, engineers, architects, and designers. With Future World, teamLab has visitors journey through and interact with 4 narratives; Nature, Town, Park, and Space.
Begin your interactive journey in 'Nature', a world of flora and fauna comprised entirely of digital technology. The exhibit 'Flowers And People, Cannot Be Controlled But Live Together' is a combination of 3 different digital artworks, recreating nature's endless cycle of growth and decay where flowers bloom and die through 4 seasons, affected by your interaction and movement within the exhibit.

The exhibit '100 Years Sea Animation Diorama' condenses 100 years of climate change into a 10 minute, larger than life film, showing the world’s rising sea levels. Children will enjoy the bright, colourful visuals and moving animations.

With 'Town', you interact with a bustling and lively digital cityscape. Children can explore and climb the slides at the 'Yellow Tunnel', or have fun with urban planning in a digital version of Singapore in 'Sketch Town'. Here, scanners convert your 2 dimensional artwork into 3 dimensional animations, projecting it into a larger than life virtual city!

You can construct various structures by stacking the glowing blocks in the exhibit 'Media Block Chair'; these make for a great photo opportunity. Then, design your own transportation network with 'Connecting! Train Block', or interact with the little people at 'A Table Where Little People Live', where the actions of the tiny characters change in response to objects introduced.

The 'Park' invites you to play and engage through a combination of physical activity and digital technology. The spectacular centerpiece 'Universe Of Water Particles' makes for a great photo opportunity, a 7 metre tall virtual waterfall, with water particles cascading down virtually sculpted rocks. Children can also have a go at 'Create! Hopscotch For Geniuses', where you'll trigger off beautiful colours and sounds on the virtual hopscotch.
Park - Universe Of Water Particles
The 'Light Ball Orchestra' is a dynamic space, where pushing, rolling, or bouncing the large, lighted globes / balls changes the colour and sound of the balls around it, creating a multi-coloured, resonating symphony effect that's dazzling. Children will enjoy 'Sketch Aquarium', where drawings of sea creatures come to life. The exhibit 'Story Of The Time When Gods Were Everywhere' allows you to create a beautiful virtual environment through touch, transforming hieroglyphic characters into wind, rain, trees, mountains, and animals.

Finally, journey to celestial 'Space', where the beauty and magnitude of the cosmos is captured in the 'Crystal Universe' exhibit. Created with teamLab's interactive 4 dimensional vision technology, carefully angled mirrors, and over 170,000 LED lights, you get the illusion of walking amongst stars in space. Incredibly awe-inspiring!
If you're planning a visit to the Future World exhibition, do note that the admission price is SGD $16 per adult, and allocate less than 1 hour for viewing. Also, admission is strictly at 6 designated time slots daily, which are 10am, 11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm, 5:30pm. If you come at any other timings, you'll be denied entry. Advance ticket purchases for your chosen time slot are highly recommended.
