Located about 40 minutes drive away from the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, The Residence On Thonglor is a sparkling new, modern hotel, just outside the city center. With fully equipped spacious rooms, modern amenities, and a location in the up-market dining and entertainment Thonglor district, The Residence On Thonglor is a great choice for foodies, clubbers, families, or long-term stays / service residences. However, its out-of-the way location makes it impractical for short-stay business travellers, shoppers, or general leisure travellers.
Ambience
Ambience at The Residence On Thonglor is clean, new, and bright. Spacious with high ceilings and bright natural lighting, soft light wood against beige marble panelling, minimalist decor, and comfortably air-conditioned areas, makes the ambience outstanding. On top of this, The Residence On Thonglor also offers comfortable areas like the lounge or reading room, making it perfect for relaxing and staying in, away from the heat of the day.
Room
Rooms at The Residence On Thonglor are spacious, clean, and fully equipped, with large clothing cabinets, in-room laundry washer & dryer, in-room kitchenette, cable television with many channels, fast wifi, and both standing shower and bathtub. So inviting and comfortable! Especially love the large bed, working desk, and sofa chair! However, there are some minor annoyances with the bathroom; the bathtub cannot be used as a standing shower due to lack of a curtain, and wet floors remain slippery, as there is no drainage.
Food
Food at The Residence On Thonglor is provided in-house, by a commercial franchise called Kuppadeli. Dishes are rather limited on the menu, and consists mainly of Western style, American, British, or Italian dishes, with 2 or so Thai dishes. Generally, food here is passable in taste, but I would not dine here unless absolutely necessary. You're better off eating elsewhere in the area, as Thonglor is well known for a lot of good eating places, at cheaper prices. If you book The Residence On Thonglor with the hotel breakfast, note that they do not offer buffet breakfast here, rather, you simply choose 1 dish per person from the ala-carte menu.
Service
Service at The Residence On Thonglor is decent. Staff are friendly, polite, and fulfill requests efficiently. However, they're just passably fluent in English, and being new, some of them are not too professional, asking highly personal questions (A staff asked me why I spent so much money on tailoring a blazer). Due to their inconvenient location (30 minutes walk away from a metro / BTS station), they offer a complimentary shuttle service, which helps greatly in getting around. The guard at the ground level entrance will also assist in hailing cabs for you, fortunately, there are many taxis around this up-market area.
Facilities & Activities
The facilities and activities at The Residence On Thonglor are numerous and well-maintained, perfect if you plan to stay indoors and relax. From a fully equipped gymnasium, to an infinity swimming pool, they even have a small golf putting green, in-house massage and sauna, and a small onsen hot bath! They also offer a DVD rental service, offering a small selelction of popular movies. For the price of THB ฿2,380 / SGD $92 per room per night, The Residence On Thonglor is affordable, and is a good choice if you plan to stay in Bangkok, Thailand, for at least 4 days 3 nights, or more.
