Originally established in 2001 as an aromatherapy and essential oil retailer, the Karmakamet brand diversified into F&B in 2013, with the opening of the Karmakamet Diner. A one-stop aromatherapy shop and dining experience, the Karmakamet Diner is a well-hidden find, located down a small lane, just off the main Soi Methi Niwet road, a short walk away from the Phrom Phong BTS in downtown Bangkok, Thailand.

Ambience at Karmakamet Diner is their main highlight. As a fragrance retail shop, needless to say, the entire place smells fabulous. But it looks even better, like a sort of secret mystery garden oasis. Lush greenery surrounds an idyllic looking, retro industrial building. Within, comfortable dark wooden furniture is laid out in the dimly lit but spacious dining hall beside the shop, lending a feeling of privacy, and serene tranquility. Industrial decor features, thick heavy metal doors with handles, rows upon rows of bottles lining shelves, steel beams and gunny sacks overhead. Absolutely loved the inviting, relaxing, intimate atmosphere here!

Service at Karmakamet Diner is decent, of a passable standard. Even with a large, spacious area, I find it odd that no staff are stationed at the entrance to welcome guests, we walked quite far into the restaurant before a staff met us. Staff here can converse in basic English, are friendly enough, and the menu has clear English descriptions. When asked, staff were able to provide descriptions of dishes, as well as recommendations. Order fulfillment takes awhile, perhaps because of the relaxed nature of the place, expect a waiting time of about 20 minutes.

Food at Karmakamet Diner is Western style cuisine, with fine dining plating and presentation. There is a good selection of alcoholic beverages, including cocktails and wines. During our visit, we only tried the desserts. Generally, we find the desserts to be below average in taste, though most are plated beautifully, and contribute to a fun, playful dining experience. Prices are also rather high for most dishes. Karmakamet Diner is a place I would only return for the ambience and drinks, but not the food.

The Piccolo Latte (THB ฿100 / SGD $3.90) is decent, though I felt it wasn't as robust as I like. But the flavour of the coffee beans is still strong enough, and it's pretty fragrant.

The Cocktail Winter Breeze (THB ฿360 / SGD $14) is a fruity, refreshing blend of gin, white wine, apple juice, pear juice, and home made ginger infused lychee syrup. Smooth and cooling in texture, it's rather light and fruity on the palate, making it a good pairing with fish, white meat, or dishes with light sauces.

The Strawberry In The Clouds (THB ฿390 / SGD $15) is their version of a deconstructed strawberry shortcake. For presentation, it's a 10 upon 10, a completely fun, playful experience, where a huge rainbow cotton candy floss covers a small cup of strawberries, butter biscuits, strawberry ice cream, amaretto cream, and walnut crumble. But in taste, it's a 1 upon 10, overly sweet, cloying, and equal parts weird in texture, totally unlike any strawberry shortcake I've eaten. In fact, the giant ball cotton candy tastes better than the actual dessert itself. Terrible overall dessert.

The Truffle Creme Brulee & Mini Chocolate Lava Cake (THB ฿390 / SGD $15) are 2 desserts in 1 beautiful, artistic plate. The truffle creme brulee is good, with a crispy, caramelised sugar crust that cracks satisfiyingly, revealing the soft, wobby, sweet custard within. The mini chocolate lava cake is properly warm and moist in texture, rich and deep with chocolate flavour. Cut into it, and the thick molten chocolate within slowly oozes out. The orange nougat ice cream is forgettable, but the crisp cheese croustillant cracker on top is tasty. Good dessert!

The Tea Tropical Rain Forest (THB ฿180 / SGD $7) is a herbal tea blend of chrysanthemum, liquorice, strawberries, lemongrass, eucalyptus, mint, jasmine, and safflower. Calm and soothing with a floral fruity taste, it's said to aid the liver function, increase fat metabolism, relieve allegies, relieve headaches, soothe coughs, soothe stomach inflamation, relieve female issues, and more.

Tea Tropical Rain Forest (THB ฿180 / SGD $7)

The Tea Jasmine Dragon Pearl (THB ฿200 / SGD $7.80) is a green tea blend of hand-rolled, young and tender jasmine green tea leaves. Rich and refreshing with a strong floral taste, it's said to aid anti-oxidant activity, aid the immune system, increase collagen formation, and more.
