Operating as part of the Eat At Seven dining concepts in Suntec City from July 2016, Tempura Kohaku specialises in only 1 dish - Edomae / Tokyo style tempura donburi, otherwise known as tendon. And Tempura Kohaku serves among the best versions of this decadent rice bowl in Singapore, piled high with a variety of freshly fried tempura items.
Ambience at Tempura Kohaku is simple and casual. The small floor area is brightly lit, simply lined with functional wooden furniture, which is decently comfortable. The counter around the open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs prepare the bowls of tendon, however, this also contributes to the already poor ventilation, as the smell of frying oil hangs quite heavily in the air, and sticks to clothing.
Service at Tempura Kohaku is straightfoward, and fuss-free. Staff don't have much engagement, but can answer simple questions on dishes when asked. I like that they're quick and efficient at clearing away empty / dirty dishes when diners leave, an important step due to the limited seating. You can chat with the chefs preparing the food, but again, they don't have much engagement here.
Food at Tempura Kohaku is distinctly Japanese, with a focus on only 1 dish, the Edomae / Tokyo style tempura donburi / tendon. Each bowl is freshly prepared to order, which results in a short wait, but is incredibly fragrant and so satisfiying to eat. Portions are large for individuals, but usually not shared here. Prices are affordable for the quantity, wallet-friendly enough for daily dining. Budget about SGD $15 per person for a meal here.

The Suntory Kakubin Highball (SGD $8) is a blend of Suntory Kakubin Yellow Label blended whisky, cold soda water, and lemon juice. Notes of grains and acid playfully dance across the palate, though the bitter sweet sour flavours are intense.

Their signature Spicy Kohaku Tendon (SGD $15) features a total of 10 tempura items in 8 unique varieties. These include 1 piece each of shiitake mushroom, baby corn, string beans, crab stick, pumpkin, squid, and 2 pieces each of chicken, and prawn / shrimp. Each is lightly battered, having a light crunch, while the ingredient within remains moist and tender. Served over a bed of fluffy soft premium Japanese Hokkaido Nanatsuboshi polished white rice, laced with a sweet savoury spicy gravy. Completely delicious, I enjoyed each bite, though the sauce did make the tempura batter slighly limp in parts. Highly recommended!
