Established in February 2017, Wok Hey is a quick Chinese takeaway kiosk that specialises in the art of wok stir-fry. The hallmark of a good Zi Char, the wok hei / breath of the wok, is evident in the simple but well-executed dishes that Wok Hey consistently serves up. Their unique selling point, which sets them apart from all other Chinese Zi Char, is that they offer easy, visual, customisation options for your meal.

Ambience at Wok Hey relies on its bright, colourful signage, tongue-in-cheek name, and glass panels where you can watch the chefs preparing dishes to order. As a pure takeaway kiosk, there is no seating at all. There is typically a short, orderly queue, with a LED sign indicating the queue number for order collection.

Service at Wok Hey is completely self-service, with ordering, payment, and collection over the counter. Staff don't display much product knowledge or engagement, being purely transactional. Thankfully, the menu is simple, easy to read, and straightforward enough. I like that dishes are quickly prepared to order.

Food at Wok Hey is focused on Chinese and Japanese stir-fry dishes. The wok hei / breath of the wok is key here, dishes are consistently tasty as they capture this well. Portions are medium sized for individuals, and rather filling. Prices are slightly above a typical zi char stall, because they offer customisable options for each dish. Budget about SGD $9 per person for a meal here.

They use the same Chinese takeaway packaging you'll find in most Western countries. Although it looks small, the portion size is actually medium and substantial, because of its height.
