Established in July 2010 but only opening their first permanent store in August 2011, Chocolate Origin is a speciality dessert store that does, what else? Chocolate desserts. Growing from offering solely chocolate cakes when they started, to a good range of chocolate desserts now, Chocolate Origin remains a solid choice for chocolate lovers, and those looking to indulge a little.

Ambience at Chocolate Origin is modern functional, but simple. The place is usually warmly lit, relaying on mostly the surrounding lights, with functional wooden and metal furniture being closely packed. Their shops usually have a small floor space, so seating, if any, is limited. Most customers order takeaway, but if you're looking for a quick sit-down dessert fix, the place is alright.

Service at Chocolate Origin is helpful, attentive, and efficient. We personally had a fantastic experience at the Jewel Changi Airport outlet, where staff were helpful and polite, displaying good product knowledge, and offered to assist with requests. Other places though, seem to have passable transactional service, not bad, but not memorable either.

Food at Chocolate Origin is focused on desserts, specifically, dark chocolate items. The focus is commendable, and it's resulted in much success; their chocolate desserts are delicious and consistently well-executed, usually better than elsewhere. Portions are sized for individuals. Prices are comparable to other dessert cafes, budget about SGD $7 per person.

The Latte Hot (SGD $4.80) has decent strength, but is more milky in taste than elsewhere. Alright, but won't please serious coffee drinkers.

Love the Hot Chocolate (SGD $5 / $6.80), which has a rich, medium thin, silky texture, and bold chocolatey bitter sweet milky flavour. Not too sweet or cloying, this soulful beverage is warming and comforting. Appreciate the effort to draw the chocolate art!

The Cuppa Lava Cake (SGD $5.50) features a rich dark chocolate lava cake, over a base of vanilla ice cream. The creamy smooth ice cream holds up well despite the warmth of the cake, and has a delicate floral sweet vanilla flavour. But the dark chocolate lava cake is the star, with its moist and soft texture, deep chocolatey bitter sweet flavour, and luscious chocolate sauce that oozes out when cut. As one of 2 desserts on the original menu, this has remained popular till now. Highly recommended!

The Dark Gelato (SGD $4.50) is alright. While it's nicely smooth and creamy, with decent chocolatey bitter sweet flavour, it lacks the deep robustness in taste that other versions elsewhere have. Decent but not outstanding, which is a surprise.

The Dark Cake (SGD $8.80) is a perfect marriage of luscious chocolate ganache, between layers of thin chocolate sponge cake, finished with a chocolate glaze. Addictively delicious, with its smooth airy light moist spongy texture and bold chocolatey bitter sweet flavour, it's a challenge to stop eating this. Love the decorated plate as well. Highly recommended!
