Introduction
Sayaji Hotel Pune caters mainly to business travellers, as the city of Pune isn't a tourist destination but a major business hub in the state of Maharashtra, India. Located just 3 hours drive outside of Mumbai, Sayaji Hotel Pune is a prominent hotel in Pune, and consistently voted as one of the best hotels in India. It's a shame most leisure travellers won't get to stay at Sayaji Hotel Pune, as I personally feel it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in!
Ambience
Ambience at Sayaji Hotel Pune is good. The hotel lobby and reception is well decorated with contemporary art pieces, as well as the reception lounges and corridors on each level. However, Sayaji Hotel Pune takes the full brunt of the setting sun, and it becomes impossible to sit in the lounges facing the sun during the evenings. They also face minor electrical faults from time to time, I once got stuck in the lift for 2 minutes during a blackout!
Room
We stayed at the Sayaji Hotel Pune room classified as Sayaji Grande, with came with complimentary breakfast at The Portico, and a welcome drink. I found the Sayaji Grande to be very comfortable, with proper beds, bathroom facilities, mini pantry, and even an in-room entertainment system. A desktop PC was provided with office software, the TV was huge and featured a surround sound system. There is an exhaustive list of movies, music, and videos available for your choice, and also free wi-fi throughout the hotel. Sayaji Hotel Pune is also the only hotel I've stayed in which uses an iTouch for full room control.
Food
Food at The Portico is pretty decent, with a choice of buffet style or ala-carte. They also provide the room service and personal chef. Generally, the Indian food is much better compared to the Chinese or Western food. Food at Barbeque Nation features mostly buffet style grills, and while there isn't much variety, the food is really good, as Barbeque Nation is an award winning restaurant.
Service
Service at Sayaji Hotel Pune is excellent, friendly, and personalised. I felt that Sayaji Hotel Pune provides one of the best hotel service I've ever experienced, so much so that I'm willing to overlook my mishap with the lift. Concierge service is available on every level, and includes being able to check-in and check-out just outside your room. They also support business requests like taking calls, postal services, emails, or fax services. Security is also rather tight at Sayaji Hotel Pune, which gives a sense of safety to guests.
Facilities & Activities
Because Sayaji Hotel Pune caters mainly to business travellers, the list of facilities and activities is rather limited. Sayaji Hotel Pune does have the basic swimming pool and gym, but not much else beyond that. Also, there isn't much tourist attractions nearby. Fortunately, the vast options of in-room entertainment and business facilities make up for it.
Tip: Corporate rates at Sayaji Hotel Pune tend to be a lot cheaper. When ordering room service, quote your corporate as well, there might possibly be a discount.
