One of the long standing star attractions of Sentosa, Underwater World Singapore offers a unique experience of viewing marine life in their natural habitats. Rather than just exhibiting their deep sea and ocean marine life in viewing tanks like other oceanariums, Underwater World Singapore is mostly underwater as its name suggests, and viewing is done through a specially constructed underwater acrylic plastic tube large enough for people to walk through.
Underwater World Singapore houses about 250 species of marine creatures from around the world. The star attraction, which is the 83 m long underwater tunnel, has a travelator that passes through 2 sections. The first is the Tunnel Reef Colony, which features graceful rays and sharks, set in an underwater 'lost city'. The second is the Tunnel Ocean Colony, which features larger marine life including giant groupers, huge rays, and more sharks. The enchanting part of the experience is watching these creatures swim by around and over your head!
Another part of the appeal of Underwater World Singapore is the many Feeding Sessions and Interactive Sessions. These Interactive Sessions include the Touch Pool, which feature sharks, rays, starfish, porcupine fish and archer fish; the Ray Of Fun, which features 5 different species of large rays; and the Mystical Anti Gravity Interactive Concept Tank (MAGIC-T), which allows visitors to touch and feed fishes through a hole in the tank. Several other premium interactive sessions include Swim With The Dolphins, and Dive With The Sharks.
I particularly liked the Jelly World exhibit, which has translucent jellyfish and a rotating psychedelic display of lights. The Living Fossils exhibit was interesting as well, with its giant catfish and arapaima.
Underwater World Singapore has an outdoor section, which houses the Dolphin Suite. This area has the live show of the Meet The Dolphins And Fur Seals Session, which takes place at 11am, 4pm and 5.45pm daily.
If you're planning a visit to Underwater World Singapore, do note that admission fees costs SGD $26, and your ticket also includes the Meet The Dolphins And Fur Seals Session. Allocate between 1 to 2 hours for viewing, and be sure the catch the free Turtle Pool exhibit outside the entrance.
