Captilising on the upcoming trend of barbecue & grill buffets, Sigree Global Grill in Powai, Mumbai is an attempt by Speciality Restaurants Ltd to muscle in on the market. Open during both lunch and dinner, Sigree Global Grill is a mid-range restaurant that offers unlimited helpings from its extensive buffet spread, and includes a bar that serves drinks and cocktails.
Ambience at Sigree Global Grill is modern, with touches of elegance and extravagance in the furniture. The buffet spread is well laid-out and labelled clearly. Fortunately, Sigree Global Grill is also rather well-ventilated despite being enclosed, as good air-circulation means you won't smell of food after your meal.
Service at Sigree Global Grill is good. Staff can be a little overwhelmed during peak periods though, and aren't very observant. But they are friendly and polite, and very efficient during service. Portioning of food is handled professionally, and clearing of tables is done quickly as well. They also offer a list of toiletries to ensure diners are fully comfortable, such as cotton ear buds, band-aids or contact lens solution.
The range of food at Sigree Global Grill is quite extensive. So for a fixed, relatively low price, you're able to get quite a wide range of options, and unlimited servings of each. However, as the menu is fixed and doesn't change, this reduces the novelty of repeat visits. They do live up to the 'global' part of their name, as food is influenced by cultures and cooking styles worldwide, and not just from India.
There is a certain set order to the way food at Sigree Global Grill is served, although you don't have to follow it. I suggest pacing youself, sampling only small portions of each, then ordering more of those you like. I noticed that their fish, seafood and vegetable dishes tend to be tastier, in contrast, their chicken dishes were among the least flavourful. The local Indian desserts were also better than the western-inspired desserts. And I thought the Chinese dim sum was average, but good effort on their part for attempting it.

Signage along the steet is rather prominent, as you can't actually see the restaurant from the streets outside. But the signage also doesn't explain much about its concept.

The interior is spacious and eye-catching, with a nice orderly layout. Suitable for dining in large or small groups, and the back even has an enclosed private dining room. The buffet spread of mains and desserts are just opposite the open kitchen.

I was born in the Sivalik range of the Himalayas. In a place most of you visit only in an Atlas. In a time that wasn't measured by cuckoos that sprang out of clocks. In a silence that was sometimes punctuated by howling winds and gushing streams. In a world that had nothing to do with yous. Seems like reason enough to be here.

Supposedly, turning the signal striker to red means the staff will notice, and stop serving the endless stream of starter skewers. In reality however, staff just keep serving the starter skewers anyway, unless you verbally tell them to stop.

The flow of the meal goes like this: Start with soups, then move on to the bread board, then the starter skewers which are placed over a barbecue grill in the middle of the table, then the buffet spread of main courses and staple foods, then the open kitchen live station serving pasta, and finally dessert. All servings are unlimited, and you can also choose to mix the flow of food in any order you want. Caution: Pace yourself, as most people barely get past the starter skewers.

Update Mar-2016: Returned to Sigree Global Grill after more than 3 years, and I'm glad that things have more or less remained the same. The ambience is still classy, though ventilation is poorer now, and teh smell of grilling sticks to your clothes. But service and quality of food remains as good as ever, although prices have increased slightly. Otherwise, Sigree Global Grill is still a destination restaurant worth checking out if you're in Mumbai, India, pretty good!
