Introduction
Located about 40 - 70 minutes drive from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International airport, JW Marriott Hotel in Indonesia made international headlines for being targeted during 2 separate attacks in 2003 and 2009. Since then, the security around JW Marriott Hotel has been tightened considerably, and today, has one of the highest security in any hotel in Jakarta, to the extent that taking photographs outside the building isn't allowed. However, it still retains the excellent service and comfortable ambience expected of any 5-star hotel in the Marriott brand.


Ambience
Ambience within JW Marriott Hotel is a mix of traditional Java / Javanese decor, native Indonesia influences, Chinese inspired decor, and modern contemporary decor. Despite the disparity, the chosen pieces flow together very well, without any disjoint, a tough feat to pull off successfully. This, together with the JW Marriott Hotel clean lines, bright lighting, and high ceilings exude a spendid charm and sophisticated class.


Room
I stayed in the Deluxe Room of JW Marriott Hotel. It offers Cable TV, a bathtub and shower, and a fairly large wardrobe. Free / Paid Wi-Fi is available. I like that the room and bathroom is spacious and comfortable, though I must admit that the room looks slightly unclean at first glance (It isn't). The room at JW Marriott Hotel offers quite a good view too. However, the work desk is a little small, and dining and working at the desk, at the same time, can be difficult.


Food
Food at JW Marriott Hotel Sailendra Restaurant is excellent. The daily buffet spread offers a huge mix of cuisines, including Indonesia, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Vegetarian, and more. There are typically more than 50 items available, including a large range of desserts. Don't even try eating it all at one sitting! While the breakfast spread is the same everyday, the range of dishes during lunch and dinner changes daily. The JW Marriott Hotel room service of local Indonesia food is very good, as is the Japanese food at Asuka Japanese Dining. However, the range of drinks is rather limited.


Service
Service at JW Marriott Hotel is excellent. Hotel staff accomodated our requests well during our business meetings, and you're greeted as you pass by throughout the hotel. Even the security personnel are polite and efficient, despite their insistence on professionalism (and thorough checking), which is commendable. The courteous and friendly service of staff at JW Marriott Hotel even extends outside of working hours, as an off-duty staff greeted us when we passed by in the streets!


Facilities & Activities
The facilities at JW Marriott Hotel are well maintained and plentiful, though mostly for working out or relaxing. Conference rooms are well equipped and spacious, though the corridors are rather cramped. Despite being quite far from the airport, JW Marriott Hotel is located within 10 minutes walking distance from a major shopping belt in Jakarta, the Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio shopping district. It is also located relatively close to several major tourist attractions, and close to locations of popular outdoor activities like golf or rock climbing.
