Founded in 1986 in Jakarta, Dapur Sunda serves authentic Indonesia dishes made according to traditional recipes. Dapur Sunda is known for their use of fresh ingredients, especially vegetables and seafood, and their grilled and fried items are especially popular. They are also among the few restaurants that have a complete and comprehensive website, with a description of every item on their menu in both the local language and English.

Ambience at Dapur Sunda is styled after the traditional Sunda race in West Java, with decor and furniture inspired by them. Greenery is evident in the interiors, and traditional style architecture is played up. Dapur Sunda typically is quite brightly lit, and the only break from the traditional furniture is the modern looking chandeliers. Furniture and layout is spacious and comfortable. You can even choose to dine in the traditional style, where locals will sit cross-legged on the wooden floorboards!

Service at Dapur Sunda is polite and friendly, though food is only prepared upon order, so you'll have to wait a while. Some of the staff can't converse in English, but pointing at the menu, which has English descriptions of each dish, is usually sufficient. However, it does help to have a basic knowledge of specialties of the region before ordering.

Food at Dapur Sunda is excellent, a testament to their long success in business. Dishes are freshly prepared, and pack a lot of flavour. Most are served with a free-flow of rice, and several dipping sauces and condiments to accompany the dish. The have quite an extensive selection on the menu, though desserts are somewhat limited. Dapur Sunda is considered to be an expensive restaurant by locals, so normally only the middle and upper class of society dine here.
